CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - Hurricane Newton slammed into the twin resorts of Los Cabos on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula Tuesday morning, knocking out power in some places as stranded tourists huddled in their hotels.
National Hurricane Center predicted Newton could cross the peninsula as a hurricane and re-enter the gulf.
Newton could even reach the U.S.
Hurricane Newton, located about 160 miles south-southeast of the tourist resort of Cabo San Lucas on Monday evening, is seen in an image from the NASA-NOAA GOES-West satellite taken September 5, 2016.
Boat owners pulled fishing craft in from the water ahead of the storm’s arrival and business owners nailed boards and sheets of plywood over windows in Cabo San Lucas, which was hammered by Category 3 Hurricane Odile in 2014.
