Joined by Kendrick Lamar and a stage full of water. - From Vanity Fair
The BET Awards may be airing opposite the much-hyped Game of Thrones finale, but the awards show had one ace up their sleeve for dominating Sunday night’s online conversation: Beyoncé.
The Queen herself appeared to open the awards with a performance of “Freedom” from Lemonade, with Kendrick Lamar also on hand to rap his verse, joining Beyoncé on a stage covered in water.
Though she perfected the art of the surprise, totally-out-of-nowhere album with 2013’s Beyoncé, her latest model has adopted a little more buildup—word broke a few days before Lemonade’s premiere on HBO that it would happen, which gave the Beyhive and the world at large a few days to panic/prepare.
Just one more lesson from Beyonce to the rest of us on how to make one hell of an entrance.
