The last time Texas stepped foot inside Jack Trice Stadium in 2015, the Cyclones sent Charlie Strong’s Longhorns back to Austin with the weight of a 24-0 shutout loss heavy on their minds.
Despite coming up just short, though, there’s reason to feel more optimistic about what Texas can become this season than there was ahead of its meeting with the Trojans, considering the Horns were widely expected to be to blown out on a national stage.
Instead, Texas went toe-to-toe with an elite foe, providing hope that the Horns can do much of the same against opposition such as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU.
Fortunately for Texas, its strengths and weaknesses align with Iowa State’s in a fairly ideal fashion once on the field.
With a win, Texas is suddenly 2-1 in its last three with the lone loss coming to a potential Heisman winner and College Football Playoff hopeful USC squad.
