Adrian Beltre may be done for the season

Third baseman Adrian Beltre, who returned well ahead of schedule this month from a hamstring strain, may miss the rest of the year - From Lone Star Ball

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre says he may not play again this season, and will discuss the issue with Jeff Banister and Jon Daniels today, per the beat guys on Twitter. Beltre has battled injuries throughout the season, and suffered a hamstring strain on August 31 that was expected to keep him out of the remainder of the regular season. Beltre returned as a DH on September 13, however, and even made it back on the field at third base for yesterday’s game. With the team now officially eliminated from contention, however, there’s no need for Beltre to continue to push himself to play through pain. The Rangers have Willie Calhoun, Drew Robinson, Will Middlebrooks and Ryan Rua all up, and the final five games can be used to give them some at bats and take a look at them as potential 2018 contributors.

Rangers reaction: Adrian Beltre imagines what could have been

The Texas Rangers leader Adrian Beltre said his injury, along with some of his banged up teammates, were too much for the club to overcome in 2017 and says he thinks it led to players being traded away instead of the opposite. - From star-telegram

No, he did it so the Rangers didn’t have to use him as the designated hitter. I know Delino [DeShields], [Nomar] Mazara and [Shin-Soo] Choo are one of the three guys that have been hot lately,” he said. Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields, who hit an inside-the-park home run in Tuesday's loss to the Astros, said it feels weird having nothing to play for the final week of the season. Instant Replay: Twins' win eliminates Rangers before thrashing by Astros goes final

Instant replay and observations from the Rangers' 14-3 loss to the Houston Astros Tuesday night at Globe Life Park in Arlington:What you need to... - From SportsDay

Rodriguez/Getty Images) By Evan Grant , Staff Writer Contact Evan Grant on Twitter: @Evan_P_Grant Instant replay and observations from the Rangers' 14-3 loss to the Houston Astros Tuesday night at Globe Life Park in Arlington: What you need to know: The Rangers were officially eliminated from wild card contention when Minnesota beat Cleveland Tuesday night, but at the point that game went final, Houston already had a dominating lead over the Rangers. Dude of the day: SS Elvis Andrus had a pair of hits, including the lone hit with runners in scoring position. If he can go 7 for 18 over the final five games, he can finish with his second consecutive .300 season. They need seven home runs over the final five games to match the 2003 team for the third highest total in club history. Interestingly, all four of the top home-run hitting seasons in Rangers history (2005, 2001, 2003 and 2017) will end with non-winning records.

Adrian Belte hits homer as Texas tops Seattle

- From Major League Baseball

It's disappointing." Robinson Cano hit his 300th career homer in the top of the ninth off reliever Keone Kela for Seattle, joining Jeff Kent (377) and Rogers Hornsby (301) as the only second basemen in MLB history with 300 home runs. Seattle southpaw James Paxton, making his second start since coming off the disabled list with a strained pectoral muscle, gave up four hits and two runs over 3 2/3 innings before being lifted after reaching 73 pitches. We definitely have to finish strong." All the Rangers' damage against Paxton came in the first as he fell to 12-5 with a 3.03 ERA. This was Beltre's sixth start at designated hitter since missing two weeks with a strained left hamstring. Ramirez, acquired from the Rays on July 28, is 1-2 with a 3.54 ERA over his last seven starts with Seattle.

After Hurricane Harvey upended lives in south Texas, Houston Astros has found strength to help - From Rolling Stone

"This storm has been devastating on a lot of levels, frustrating on a lot of levels, and inspiring on a lot of levels," says Reid Ryan, Astros president of business operations Long before the first pitches of the 2017 Major League Baseball season were thrown, many of the game's smartest minds said that this year would be a big, big year for the Houston Astros. The next day after the series, the Astros returned home and were scheduled to play the New York Mets at home, but they got a breather instead. Meanwhile, the residents of the city and its environs look to recover as best as they can. Hinch says that everything that's happened in the last month only makes his team and the organization want to do more for the community. However, Ryan says the Astros' players hit the field everyday with more than just their own goals in mind.

Houston Strong documentary released by MLB

- From Major League Baseball

We love the players and the competition. We love the sounds and colors. That's a reference to the place I've called home for the last 17 years, and every Astros fan remembers how that 18-inning masterpiece of a playoff baseball game ended in 2005. This film is also about baseball, about the Astros returning home days after Harvey departed, and at Turner's insistence, taking the first baby steps of bringing normalcy back to the city. "I encouraged them to play," he says in the film.

- From Major League Baseball

ARLINGTON -- Now that the Astros have locked up the American League West title and home-field advantage in the AL Division Series, they can turn their attention to chasing down the Indians for the best record and top seed in the AL. The Astros clinched home-field advantage in the ALDS by beating the Rangers, 14-3, on Tuesday night, eliminating the two-time defending division champs in the process. If the Indians go 3-2 the rest of the way, the Astros would have to win out. The Indians end the season with five home games -- two more against the Twins and three against the White Sox. Guys don't feel like, 'Hey, let's just finish out the rest of the week and move on.'" Brian McTaggart has covered the Astros since 2004, and for MLB.com since 2009.
