"I came in hoping to play as many matches as possible here, I thought Peter played some incredible tennis today.
"I love this event, I wish I could have stayed longer but it wasn't my day, I didn't find my game as much as he did." While it's true this was Sock's first ATP tournament of the year, he did play in the Hopman Cup last weekend and in his last match there he narrowly lost to Roger Federer 7-6 7-5.
"It's not like I came out and played terrible tennis, the guy really did play some amazing tennis.
"It's not an ideal start to my season like last year, but I love being here in Auckland, I've had amazing memories here, but this year unfortunately it wasn't the same." Sock insisted he gave it everything in this match and said it shouldn't be forgotten how well Gojowczyk played.
"The guy hit some unbelievable returns, he was painting lines all over the place, slapping balls coming in.
