It may have been mostly overlooked in the US thanks to the Fourth of July holiday, but yesterday, Blizzard decided it was time to start talking openly about Overwatch’s arch-villain Doomfist for the first time in a good long while.
Doomfist has referred to a few different villainous figures in the Overwatch universe over time, at least two other men with massive power thanks to an infamous gauntlet we saw in the very first teaser for the game, and the gauntlet also rests inside the payload in Numbani.
But this is the most detail we’ve gotten about the current identity and status of the present day Doomfist, and the implication is that he may be making his way into Overwatch itself very soon.
This new information is doing nothing to convince me that actor Terry Crews isn’t possibly voicing Doomfist, which first began as a fan campaign, then grew to a point where Crews himself was lobbying for the role, and he ultimately ended up visiting Blizzard itself.
Crews is also one of the most musclebound actors in Hollywood, making him look like the previous Doomfists to an almost uncanny degree, though it’s hardly a perquisite for voice actors to resemble their in-game characters in real life, especially in a more cartoony game like this one.
