Mahindra Roxor SUV will be sold at a starting price of $15,000 (approx 10 lakh) and shares its underpins with the Mahindra Thar but hosts a long lost of changes including a new front design that makes it different from Jeep brand's design in America. Mahindra says that the Roxor will be available with a staggering 900 colour & wrap options. Mahindra Roxor is 148 inches long, 62 inches wide and stands tall at 75 inches with a short wheelbase of 96 inches. Going forward, Mahindra Roxor will be available with many more customisation options other than 9- colour & wrap options. Mahindra Roxor SUV will be through powersport dealers in the USA and through established Mahindra’s tractor dealerships.

According to a report on Carandbike, the new off-road SUV, Mahindra Roxor which will be manufactured at Mahindra's Auburn manufacturing plant in Detroit, Michigan, features a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The SUV churns out 62 bhp and will come with standard left hand drive, manual gearbox and a traditional manual four-wheel-drive shifter. The SUV is not street-legal in USA because of its barebones approach to true 4x4 off roading. According to the report, the company has also brought a new front end to avoid conflict of interest with the Jeep brand's design language in the United States. The Mahindra Roxor is expected to be available with accessories including heavy duty winches, light bars, and off-road wheels.

Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA), the Detroit-based American subsidiary of India’s Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Group, today unveiled its new side-by-side off-road SUV - Mahindra Roxor - for the US market.Christened the Mahindra Roxor, the off-highway vehicle is a derivative of the proven Mahindra Thar SUV sold in India, albeit, thoroughly re-engineered to suit to the needs, as well as comply with the norms, of the American automotive market. The Roxor is powered by the 2.5L, 4-cyl, turbocharged diesel engine from the Mahinda Thar, but in Euro 6 guise in the USA. For the first six months, the two-seat Roxor will be offered with few customisation options. However, everything from the exterior and interior colours, safari seats and back seats and ride heights to the hard tops, winches and side enclosures will be offered with a high level of personalisation. At the launch of the Roxor, Mahindra did make a clear reference to its American ties.

The Roxor is based on the Mahindra Thar DI that’s sold in India but comes with many specific changes to suit the US market. The off-road only vehicle will be assembled at Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mahindra has equipped the Roxor with the same mechanicals as the Thar DI 4WD. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels in 2WD mode. Like the Thar DI, the Roxor gets a solid axle at front with leaf sprig suspension for both the front and rear axles.

Car dorks of the sort that populate the C/D offices will be quick to point out that the Roxor resembles the megarare Alfa Romeo 1900M Matta 4×4; those with truly arcane tastes will name-check the Crosley Farm-O-Road. By the looks of the dimensions below, the Roxor’s 148-inch length–including the spare tire–puts it in league with the approximately 139-inch long Jeep CJ7. There are 9.0-inch disc brakes in the front and 11.0-inch drums in the back. Mahindra managing director Pawan Goenka said the Roxor remains true to the company’s legacy of “authentic, rugged, purpose-driven vehicles” and that it will be built with durability in mind. Conceived, designed, engineered and produced in Metro Detroit, the Roxor is the maker’s first foray into the consumer ATV market.

Mahindra began hiring its sales staff late in Q3 of 2017 and now has a team of 17 with an average of 20+ years’ experience. Mahindra’s ROXOR will be marketed as a rough-and-ready off-highway vehicle, shown in a teaser video splattered with mud both inside and out. This thing will be much more than another entrant in the SxS market. The new product will be fully assembled and supported at their 150,000 square foot facility in Auburn Hills, MI, just north of Detroit.
