B.C. gaming industry preps for global eSports tournament
Seattle doesn’t have a National Hockey League team yet, but that’s not slowing down Vancouver’s pursuit of a sports rivalry with its southern neighbour. This month organizers of The International Dota 2 Championships announced they were moving the multi-day gaming tournament from Seattle to Vancouver. Depending on the day, attendees will pay $125 to $250 for tickets to watch gamers vie for prize money August 20-25 at Rogers Arena. “The International is and has been since its inception one of the biggest events in eSports every year,” said Mani Davoudi, a member of the eSports BC association. Washington-state-based Valve Corp., the game developer behind Dota 2, has held the eSports tournament in Seattle the past six years.

2018 International Dota 2 Championships Tickets Going On Sale Tonight
The final wave of tickets for the 2018 International Dota 2 Championships will be made available at 10 pm Pacific time tonight via Ticketmaster. The first wave of tickets, made available earlier this afternoon, sold out in record time. The eighth annual Dota 2 International Championships will be held August 20th thru 25th at Rogers Arena, Vanouver, British Columbia. The International was launched in Cologne, Germany during the 2011 Gamescom. It featured 16 of the world's most elite Dota 2 teams competing in a group stage, double elimination playoff format for a grand prize of over $1 million.
TI8 will feature a "subterranean" visual theme
The theme was revealed earlier today via a post on the game's Steam Community group. The post also doubled as a call to artists and content creators in the Dota 2 community to submit their designs for the 2018 Collector's Cache. Valve made a point to mention the subterranean theme in the announcement, so that artists aspiring to get their works into TI8 can weave the associated colors and imagery into their submissions. Although Valve reminded creators to keep to the theme, it seems that the Dota 2 publisher is encouraging them to think outside the box and not just stick to making items for heroes that are already designed to be underground dwellers. Just like the Collector's Cache, artists may also submit their own designs for merchandise through the Workshop.
