After 16 years as director of the nonprofit chorus, Kelley will take his final bow at the chorus’s May 13 concert, “Thank You for the Memories.” During his time as director, Kelley has been adamant about keeping the chorus open to all.
With Kelley, the chorus has sung in foreign languages, from Hebrew to Italian, and explored different genres like swing to jazz.
Walter Hempel, of Duxbury, has been in the chorus for six years, along with his wife Mary Beth.
Besides directing the Snug Harbor Community Chorus, Kelley has more than 30 years of music experience.
He worked for 25 years as a director of choral activities within the Brookline School System, and was the director of the Charles River Chorale until 2014.
