Eichner and Rogen will star as Timon and Pumbaa, respectively, in the live-action “The Lion King” remake that is set to be released in 2019.
The Wrap first reported that the actors would be taking on the roles of the hula skirt-wearing meerkat and the grubs-loving warthog.
The live-action “Lion King” remake, which was first announced last fall following the success of “The Jungle Book” remake, is set to be released in theaters on July 19, 2019.
The film will join the ranks of other successful live-action Disney remakes, including “Alice in Wonderland,” “Cinderella” and “Beauty and the Beast.” In addition to Lane and Sabella, the 1994 animated film starred Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Moira Kelly, Rowan Atkinson and Whoopi Goldberg.
Following the film’s success, “The Lion King II” and “The Lion King 1½” were also released.
