After months of controversy, the writers behind TLC’s 1999 single “No Scrubs” have received credit on Ed Sheeran’s hit new song “Shape of You.” Kandi Burruss, Tameka Cottle, and producer Kevin Briggs are now listed on the song’s credits, joining original writers Sheeran, Steve Mac, and Johnny McDaid.
As half of the four member R&B group Xscape, Kandi and Tiny have broadened their careers by expanding their musical abilities into reality shows (not one, but several!), companies, management opportunities, and of course, songwriting.
The two have written for the 90’s biggest stars including TLC (Their hit, “No Scrubs” is how they earned the Ed Sheeran credit), Mariah Carey, Usher, Alicia Keys, Boyz II Men, Destiny’s Child, and Whitney Houston.
After the group disbanded, Kandi would later re-appear on Real Housewives of Atlanta, the reality show that would eventually re-position her as a savvy, smart businesswoman while being a doting mother and wife.
A nice #BlackGirlMagic win for these two as Billboard reports, the hit “Shape Of You” has become one of the most dominant No.1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the last 25 years.
