The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 65.71 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 25,320.09.
The S&P 500 lost 8.51 points, or 0.309309 per cent, to 2,742.78.
The Nasdaq Composite dropped 33.98 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 7,129.60.
Against a basket of currencies, the dollar fell 0.6 per cent, its biggest drop in a month, its losses sustained mostly due to a stronger yen.
Nguyen, however, called the market expectations of an early end to an expansionary BOJ policy "premature" because the bank can defend its 10-year yield target without buying so many bonds, and because inflation pressures in Japan remain low.
